Microtopping® covers the floor, ceiling, and selected walls of the San Ciro Fudoumae restaurant in Tokyo. The interplay of textures and materials, warm tones, and soft lighting creates a calm, sensory atmosphere that accompanies guests through a deep and harmonious experience.

In the quiet neighbourhood of Fudōmae, Tokyo, an Italian restaurant with an ancient soul has recently opened. The project guiding the creation of San Ciro Fudoumae brings together food and space through the concept of soil: earth as the foundation of life and of culinary ingredients.

In harmony with the calm atmosphere of the neighbourhood, the interior unfolds through layers that evoke silent geological strata and a variety of textures. The use of materials such as concrete, stone, and wood was a deliberate choice, intended to transport visitors into the depths of the earth. For the walls, ceramic tiles with a variable firing effect (yōhen) were selected, created using nickel and manganese. No two tiles share the same color: each features a distinct tone, generating natural chromatic irregularities that lend the space an organic rhythm and a subtle sense of movement.

Microtopping® was used for the floor, ceiling, and selected walls—a seamless, cement-based solution by Ideal Work capable of coating any surface with a thickness of just 3 mm. Applied in a neutral tone, Microtopping® blends seamlessly into the space, contributing to an elegant and ethereal atmosphere. Through its material presence and visual continuity, it interacts with the other textures in the interior, enhancing the overall sensory composition.

By focusing attention on the soil as an invisible point of origin, the project allows calm to permeate the environment, gently opening the senses of those who enter and guiding them toward an experience of deep connection with food.
